Soon after, the next appointment will be a more in-depth semi-structured interview to discuss your background history and to develop a comprehensive assessment plan to meet your testing needs.

(3 - 6 hours)
Testing will include questionnaire-based measures for you to complete and objective measures administered by Dr. Powell. The measures are chosen based on your specific needs and the information gathered during the interview.

(1 - 2 hours)
You will meet with Dr. Powell to discuss the results of the assessment. The results include reviewing any diagnoses (if appropriate) and personalized recommendations (i.e., a road map) for support moving forward. Recommendations may include referrals and other resources. Dr. Powell offers additional follow-up sessions as needed.
Information
-
Individuals may seek psychological assessment due to ongoing concerns that significantly impact life at home, work, or school. These concerns may include differences with motivation, attention, meeting deadlines, organization, communication, maintaining relationships, feeling misunderstood, irritability, anxiety, and sadness.
Our comprehensive assessments can help to provide clarity about why certain experiences may feel challenging and open the door to tailored support.
-
Ember offers comprehensive assessments that carefully evaluate both psychological and cognitive areas, offering a well-rounded understanding of your unique strengths and needs. Assessments include measures that evaluate memory, executive functioning, IQ, attention, social, emotional, and behavioral domains.
All evaluations explore potential diagnostic considerations based on your reported symptoms and/or concerns. Even if your initial question seems relatively simple (e.g., “Is this ADHD?”) we recognize that differences in attention and focus often stem from a complex interplay of factors. These may include executive functioning, anxiety, trauma, autism, depression, or a combination of influences shaping your experience. By exploring the full scope of possibilities, we aim to uncover a comprehensive understanding of your needs, empowering you with clarity and actionable insights.
-
At Ember, we believe that obtaining collateral information is an essential part of providing a comprehensive and accurate assessment. Insights from school and medical records, as well as input from individuals who know you well—such as teachers, family members, or close friends—offer valuable perspectives that go beyond what can be observed in a clinical setting. This information will likely be requested by Dr. Powell as part of the evaluation process to help provide the most meaningful and thorough assessment possible.
-
Assessments at Ember operate on a self-pay model, which allows us to provide personalized, high-quality assessments without the constraints often imposed by insurance companies. This means that we can dedicate the time and resources needed to deliver a comprehensive evaluation tailored to your unique needs. We are happy to provide a detailed receipt (superbill) that you may submit to your insurance for out-of-network billing and potential reimbursement, depending on your coverage.
The total cost of the assessment depends on your unique needs and scope of testing required. Fees for your assessment will be determined after your intake appointment, where we will discuss and clarify testing options in detail. Focused evaluations can be requested, but often broader differential diagnosis is needed. A written estimate will be provided to you before moving forward with testing.
